Abstract
The article analyses a citation from the poetry of Ibn ʿAbdrabbih (d. 328/940) eulogizing the greatest of the Umayyads of Córdoba, ʿAbdarraḥmān (III) an-Nāṣir li-dīn Allāh (ruled 300/912-350/961) as it appears in al-Bayān al-muġrib fī aḫbār al-Maġrib of Ibn Iḏārī al-Marrākušī (fl. end of 7th/beginning of 14th century). The continuation of the poem (from Ibn ʿAbdrabbih’s al-ʿIqd al-farīd) is also considered. Finally, the reasons for abbreviated citation are offered.
