Kalām at Sībawayhi: Two Indices with Sixteen Notes

The article gives an overview of the term kalām in Sībawayhi’s Kitāb in addition to providing a detailed index of its 1144 occurrences. It also draws attention to the fact that many occurrences of this term are missing from Derenbourg’s edition. Kalām is not only the most important term used by Sībawayhi, but it remained the most comprehensive grammatical notion long after Greek logic had made its way to Arabic grammar.
