Tigrahit – Tisyahit: The Harvest and Fire Festival in Siwa

Siwa is one of the numerous green islands in the immense sand sea of the greatest desert on earth, the Sahara. The oases of the western Egyptian desert have much in common, but there are manifold differences between Siwa and the other Egyptian oases. The article analyses a special Siwan festival the author watched and recorded during his fieldwork in 1969-1970.
