Classical Poetry Parodied: The Case of Ḥusayn Šafīq al-Miṣrī (1882–1948)

Abstract

The article analyses the poetry of the Egyptian journalist and poet Ḥusayn Šafīq al-Miṣrī, with whose passing away in 1948 the shadow of comic literature dwindled and the Arabic language became henceforth deprived of the most brilliant comic style.
