Qad yaǧūz fī š-šiʽr: On the Linguistic Background of the So-Called Poetic Licenses in Sībawayhi’s Kitāb

Sībawayhi’s Kitāb one frequently encounters qualificatory expressions referring either to some linguistic data or the relevant grammatical rules. This paper examines two such expressions: the special possibilities of poetry and their relation to some linguistic usages considered extraordinary of weakly acceptable.
