Twin Spirits: Angels and Devils Portrayed in Shah Tahmasp’s Shah Nameh

Abstract

The article examines the miniature paintings, in particular, those with devils and angels, together with some of the general beliefs that lie behind these illustrations, in one of the most famous illustrated manuscripts of the Shah Nameh, probably started by Shah Tahmasp’s father, Shah Ismail but largely completed during the reign of Shah Tahmasp.
